Utilizing X-ray crystallography the structure of the Follistatin domain (FSD) of WFIKKN2 was solved. WFIKKN2 is a potent antagonists of GDF8 and GDF11, both members of the TGF-beta superfamily of ligands. In this paper we sought to elucidate the molecular mechanisms surrounding the WFIKKN2 FSD and its antagonism against GDF8/11 through a combination of biochemical and structural techniques.
